These three guys were born in a friend’s cantina to a stray mum in the summer of 2016. The mum was very good but the area isn’t very safe for kittens, as it’s surrounded by main roads and full of adult male cats. When the kittens were about two months old, we moved them from the cantina to my house (not easy as it sounds since it involved taking the three of them in a cardboard box on an hour long train ride!).
They were some of the wildest kittens I’ve ever rescued but with time and A LOT of patience and love, they came round and saw that humans are actually not so bad.
Finding them homes wasn’t easy, though. It was July, which is a notoriously bad period for finding homes as many people are away on holiday, and there were a huge amount of kittens looking for homes, as usual. I also didn’t have the contacts at that point that I am lucky to have now. However, by persisting with social media shares of photos and videos, we eventually found homes for all three of them. The largest ginger boy went to a family about an hour’s drive from where we lived and the other two went to a couple of friends who lived in the opposite direction, another hour’s drive away.
It’s incredible how many miles you can clock up when rescuing kittens, but they’re definitely worth it.
